Enlightening rural youngsters at remote Dinajpur upazila

Opened on January 29, 2001, the school already earned reputation in the northern region within three years of its establishment by freedom fighter Dr Amjad Hossain at Chirirbandar, 10 miles off the district town.

Because of devotion of 19 dedicated teachers, the school named after Amjad's parents Amena and Baki secured four talent pool scholarships out of eight in Dinajpur district last year.

The roll strength of Amena-Baki Residential School is 400, eighty of them resident students. Sixty per cent of the students are boys.

Computer education is compulsory while the routine affair of the school is cultural and sports programme. Students observe the Victory Day, Independence Day, Inter-national Mother Language day and other national days every year in a befitting manner.

Students of the school won the first, second and third prizes at this year's Independence Day Art competition in the district.

Students here also undertake environmental study tour, join tree plantation and awareness- creating campaign.

Revered for his tireless crusade to enlighten rural youngsters Dr Amjad, Health Advisor of Bangladesh Freedom Fighters Welfare Trust is also Professor and Head of Ortho-paedics and Trauma Surgery Department of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.

He expects like every year, this year also the school is likely to face heavy rush of intending students during admission season', he said. He also said that joint efforts of Education Director of Amena-Baki Foundation Shamsul Haque, former Vice-Principal of Dhaka Residential Model School and College and school Pincipal Principal Mizanur Rahman had made the school reputed within a short span of time.

'Teachers devote extra time for students who are weak in any subject and the school authorities supply food to students and teachers during coaching', he added.
