10 cr Dollar exports so far from Mongla EPZ
According to sources, the Bangladesh Export Processing Zone Authorities have given approval to set up 20 industrial units in its Mongla EPZ, out of which seven are already in operation.
Seven more units involving a total investment of over 140 lakh US Dollars are likely to start operation within a year. These will provide jobs to at least 2000 Bangladeshis.
There are 124 industrial plots in the Mongla EPZ, which provides all infrastructure facilities.
Of the seven industrial units now in operation, four are being run by foreign investors, one under joint venture and two are owned by local entrepreneurs.
The sources said more foreign investors, particularly from India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Myanmar and Thailand will set up industries in the EPZ after construction of Khanja-han Ali Airport, Padma Bridge at Mawa and supply of gas from Shabajpur gas field.
