Maoists kidnap judge, former aide to late king

Maoist rebels have kidnapped a judge and a former aide to the late King Birendra in southwest Nepal, police said yesterday.

Armed Maoists kidnapped district court chief judge Tanka Bahadur Moktan on Friday and in a separate incident abducted Chet Bahdur Kunwar, a former personal secretary to the late king, on Sat}rday, police and Supreme Court officials said.

The Maoists ha~e been in talks to release the judge and gave an assurance for his safe return on Sunday, a Supreme Court official, who declined to be named, said.
