13 held from Barisal BNP office, arms recovered

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested 13 alleged drug addicts, gamblers and extortionists from a BNP office at Kawnia in the city Friday night. Some of them are wanted in murder cases.

RAB sources said they were arrested while taking drug and gambling. A pipe gun and some sharp weapons were recovered from them.

The 13 include Maruf, Manik, Mithu, Tapu, Afzal, Shafiq, Kotan, Humaun, Arif, Pavel, Delwar-- all activists of BNP and its fronts.

Among them, Jubo Dal leaders Maruf and Manik are accused in the Chhatra League leader Saidur Rahman Faruk murger case. Faruk was also Vice-president of Barisal Government College Students Union.

In another incident on the same night, RAB arrested one Nurul Islam, accused in the sensational murder of Mafuza Begum, complainant of the case filed in connection with acid throwing on engineer Eva.

He was arrested from Kutharikati on the outskirts of the city. Some sharp weapons were recovered during the raid.

Abdul Aziz Serniabat, accused in schoolgirl Eti abduction case, was arrested from Bariali-Barohazari area in Agailjhara upazila.

Eti, 13, was abducted by miscreants while she was going to school at Agailjhara on November 23.

Police said arrested Aziz confessed his involvement in the abduction.
