Salary of 177 high officials held up in Barisal Income tax returns not submitted

Sources at Barisal district accounts office said the defaulters include 93 doctors of Barisal Sher-e- Bangla Medical College and Hospital, an Additional Chief Engineer of Roads and Highways Department, two judges, four customs superintendents, a Deputy Director of Secondary and Higher Education and a Deputy Collector of Revenue (RDC).

Md Azizul Huq, Commissioner of Taxes said, over 500 government officials and staff were on the lists of defaulters in the district. All but the 177 later submitted their income tax returns. The 177 defaulters will have to submit clearance from the taxation department to get their salary, he said.
