Maoists bomb 2 houses in Kathmandu

Nepal's army killed six Maoists in the country's west while two houses were damaged in bomb attacks in the capital during weekend violence, police said yesterday.

The six were killed in clashes with the army in Mugu and the frontier districts of Arghakhanchi and Pyuthan in western Nepal Saturday, a security source said.

In another incident, Maoists fighting to overthrow the Nepalese monarchy Sunday targetted the residence of a former communist, KesharJung Rayamajhi, who had in the past favoured an active role for the king in Nepalese politics.

"A group of Maoists exploded a locally made powerful bomb, badly damaging the house of Rayamajhi at Bharatpur municipality south of Kathmandu early Sunday," a police source said.

"The two-storey house was badly damaged but no one was hurt or killed in the blast," the source said.
