Diarrhoea claims 3 lives in Rajshahi

The dead victims are Ershadul, Shayamoli and Sumitra of Bagmara and Puthia upazilas.

More than 50 people were admitted to different hospitals, including Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, in 24 hours. The number of patients rose to 200 in different hospitals in last three days, according to hospital sources.

On average, 40 to 50 diarrhoea patients are being admitted to hospitals daily.

Rajshahi University sources said, more than 25 students of Ziaur Rahman Hall took treatment of diarrhoea from the university medical centre and Rajshahi Medical College Hospital in last three days.

Zia Hall students complained that low quality food of the hall dining room had been the cause of its outbreak.

According to hospital sources, shortage of oral saline prevails in the hospitals. Grabbing the opportunity, drug sellers doubled the price of oral saline.

A patient from Bagmara said he collected a packet of saline at Tk 10 whereas its actual price is Tk 3.

More than 100 diarrhoea patients were admitted to different Upazila Health Complexes at Bagmara, Durgapur, Godagari and Tanore, according to sources in the district civil surgeon office.

The outbreak of the disease was due to cold, Rajshahi district civil surgeon AKM Fazlul Haque told this correspondent.
