Martyred Intellectuals Day observed in B'baria, RU

Martyred Intellectuals Day was observed yesterday in Brahmanba-ria and Rajshahi University in a befitting manner.

Our Brahmanbaria Correspon-dent reports: A discussion meeting was held at a victory fair held at Annada High School playground under the aegis of the district administration.

Brahmanbaria Pourasabha officials led by Chairman Hafizur Rahman Molla placed wreaths at the alter of Smriti Hironnmoy (Martyred Intellectuals' Monument).

Bangladesh Shishu Academy organised a discussion meeting at Brahmanbaria Zila Parishad auditorium with the ADC (General) in the chair.

Brahmanbaria Deputy Commi-ssioner (DC) Md Jahirul Haque and Superintendent of Police (SP) ATM Taraque were present as chief guest and special guest. Among others, Brahmanbaria Press Club President Mansur Kamal and Sheshu Academy Children's Affairs Officer Mahfuza Akter took part.

Local cultural institute, Brah-manbari Nagorik Committee also observed the day holding various programmes.

Our Rajshahi University Correspondent reports: National flag was hoisted at half-mast and black flags were hoisted atop the administration building including halls, library and the the Vice Chancellor's (VC) official residence.

VC Prof Faisul Islam Faruki and Pro-VC Prof KAM Shahadat Hossain Mondol placed wreaths at the alter of Shaheed Minar and Martyred Intellectuals' Monument on the campus.

Rajshahi University Teachers Association (RUTA), Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, Bangladesh Chhatra League, Chhatra Front, Chhatra Federation, Rajshahi University Officers and Employees Union also placed wreaths at the Shaheed Minar. RUTA brought out a silent procession.
