Catholic church torched in Sri Lanka
Police are investigating an apparent arson at a Roman Catholic church in Sri Lanka by an unidentified group of people that ransacked and set fire to furniture and broke relics last morning.
The arsonists destroyed statues and pews at the St Michael's church at Katuwana, Homagama, about 40km west of here, in the pre-dawn attack, police said.
Catholic priest Chaminda Wanigasena said there was no resident clergy at the church, which was managed by a larger church in the neighbourhood.
