India may have some advice for Nepali king

When Nepal King Gyanendra arrives here today on his third visit to India, the Indian government will convey to him the need to urgently restore the political process in the kingdom, official sources said.

India considers the visit important, given the precarious security situation in the kingdom and the key role the king could play in resolving it, the sources said.

"A condition to any solution to Nepal's serious problems is restoration of the political process and legitimacy of parliament. This will be conveyed to the king," they said.

The king will travel to India amid protests in his country by Maoist guerrillas, who see the trip as a "surrender" of the country's sovereignty to New Delhi.

It is not only the guerrillas who registered their protest by imposing a shutdown in Mahottari district near the Indian border ahead of the visit.
