Resist cultural onslaught, for peace

Cultural activists, teachers, lawyers, journalists and officials spoke at the largely attended seminar, organised by Jessore Sangskritik Kendra.

They included eminent litterateur and columnist Prof Abu Zafar, Kushtia Islamic University teacher Dr ABM Mukhlesur Rahman, Jessore Press Club President Fakir Shaukat, Jessore Al-Helal Trust Chairman Manlana Azizur Rahman, poet Nasir Helal and film actor and cultural activist Sheik Abul Kashem Mithun.

Central Convenor of National Cultural Parishad Mir Kashem Ali spoke as chief guest at the function. Advocate Gazi Enamul Haque was in the chair.

The speakers said Bangalees have a rich and distinctive cultural heritage. But this is being polluted and lost due to aggression by alien culture, which is causing social ills. Our culture promotes peace and religious harmony. A nation loses its glory when its cultural heritage is lost, they said and called for upholding the Bangalee culture for peace and social advancement.

Perverted things can not bring peace and progress in society, they said.

The media and cultural activists have a great role to play in this regard.

They advised the young generation to search their root and revive the past gory. Cultural aggression began in this sub-continent when the British came here about 150 years ago.

They said moral values can be restored in the society if we nourish the rich Bangalee culture.
