140 operated upon for free by Dutch plastic surgeons

About 140 patients were operated upon and over 400 patients treated at a week-long plastic surgery camp which concluded here on Tuesday.

Held at Faridpur Medical College Hospital, the camp was jointly organised by Faridpur unit of Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) and Faridpur Welfare Foundation, a humanitarian organisation.

A three-member team of surgeons from Holland led by renowned plastic surgeon Dr CA Spronk performed the operations in the camp, opened on February 7. Two other members of the team are Dr R P E Niemeijer and Dr Paulus H M Spauwen.

Faridpur unit BMA President Dr Mustafizur Rahman chaired the opening function.

Faridpur Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md Nasiruddin Khan was the chief guest while Faridpur Superintendent of Police Abdul Jalil, Faridpur Welfare Foundation President Shamim Haque and acting Chairman of Faridpur Pourasabha Sheik Mahatab Ali were special guests in the function.

Faridpur Foundation also distributed medicine worth Tk 40 lakh among the victims during the last flood.
