Part of Dhaka-Sylhet highway unfit for use of vehicles
Accidents occur frequently along the narrow 167-kilometre portion of the highway due to lack of adequate space on its both sides.
Drivers ply their vehicles with great risk along the portion of the highway, but the Roads and Highways Department (RHD) did not take any step to save lives and people's property.
Ignoring the issue, work along the aforementioned part of the highway had been progressing. The RHD undertook the project at a cost of Tk 50 lakh. Forty per cent of the work had already been completed, according to the RHD sources.
When contacted with the RHD executive engineer, he told The Daily Star about lack of provision for extension of the highway in the project profile.
However, he told this correspondent he already submitted a proposal to the higher authorities which was under process.
