Road accidents kill 5, injure 85 in Rangpur, Kushtia
Our Rangpur Correspondent reports: Three bus passengers including a woman were killed and 35 others injured in a road accident in Pirganj upazila on Tuesday.
The victims are Salma Begum, 40, and Zahedul Islam, 28, both from Dimla upazila in Nilphamari district. Identity of the other one is yet to be known.
The accident occurred when a Nilphamari-bound bus coming from Dhaka fell into a roadside ditch at Alfaruque in Pirganj Police Station as its driver lost control over steering at 7 in the morning, according to police.
Two passengers died on the spot while the other one passed away on the way to Rangpur Medical
College Hospital (RMCH).
All injured passengers were sent to RMCH. Sixteen injured persons are in critical condition.
A case was registered with Pirganj Police Station.
The driver and the conductor fled the scene after the accident.
BSS reports from Kushtia: Two persons died on the spot and 50 others were injured, 14 of them critically, in a tragic road accident at Shahebnagar on Ishwardi-Kushtia highway under Mirpur upazila yesterday morning.
Police sources said the accident look place when a Jessore- bound bus collided head-on with a speeding truck.
The dead persons were identified as Alam 35, and Tapan, 25, of Dimla upazila of Nilphamari district.
The citically injured are Barik Alam, 32, Barik Ali, 25, Abdur Rahman 45, Nimai Chandra, 28, Abbas Ali, 45, Nurul, 35, Aminul Islam, 25 Kalipada, 35, Nuruzzaman, 28, Parajit, 28, Manwar Islam, 26, Rabiul Islam, 36, Shudhir, 45, and Rabindranath, 32.
The injured persons were admitted to Kushita General Hospital.
All the victims hail from Dimla of Nilphamari district and are members of the Workers' Party. They were going to Jessore to join a party conference.
The driver of the killer truck fled the spot immediately after the incident.
A case was lodged with Mirpu Police Station.
