Tribal cultural festival in Rangamati from today

The festival, organized by Jhum Aesthetics Council (JAC), aims at highlighting the distinctive culture and heritage of indigenous people.

The annual festival, being held here since 1998, is participated by 11 ethnic groups in the Chittagong Hill Tracts region.

Eminent educationist and Dhaka University teacher Dr Anisuzzaman is likely to inaugurate the festival, said a JAC press release on Tuesday.

Chakma Raja (king) Barrister Devashish Roy, Prothom Alo Editor Motiur Rahman, cultural activist Mamunur Rashid, indigenous leader Sanjeeb Drong, economist Swapan Adnan and Anthropology teacher at Jahngirnagar University Prosanta Tripura are among dignitaries likely to attend the inaugural function.

All preparations have been completed for the festival.

"The district administration has been requested to ensure security ", JAC President Jhimit Jhimit Chakma told this correspondent.

The programme also includes drama festivals and a roundtable on 'indigenous people's education through their mother language', sponsored by the daily Prothom Alo, the press release said.
