11,000 acre khas lands grabbed in Padma shoals
Another 10,925 acres of 'khas' lands and shoals of the Padma in Sujanagar, Najirganj and Sagarkandi union in Pabna are still in the grip of illegal occupants, the NGO said in a press release.
Landless people in Dhalar Char, Masumdia, Srikanthadia, Kalyanpur and Nandiar Beel in Bera upazila are struggling to establish their rights on 3,000 acres of 'khas' lands.
The landless people of Padmar Char in Diar Baghail union of Iswardi, Pabna are also struggling to take possession of 2,964 acres of 'khas' lands.
Meanwhile, 4,375 organised landless families have taken possession of 800 acres of 'khas' lands and 39 acres of 'khas' water bodies in Dikshir Beel in Chatmohor upazila in Pabna. These are in Chalanbeel, Milonchar, Baludia and Salishgari Beel.
About 2,000 families living around Ghughudah Beel, Gerkar Beel, Muktahar Beel, Dearki Beel, Khetupara pukur in Tengragari, Padmabila, Ganghati and Raghunathpur have become owners of 'khas' lands and 'khas' water bodies, the NGO has said in a press release.
Landless people of Naldangar Beel, Chandar Beel, Chakchakiar Beel, Wargarir Beel, Behula Beel, Singrar Beel, Dholagarir Beel, Kanar Beel, Bamna Beel, Fatkiar Beel, Marichar Beel and Mirzapur Samaj of Chatmohor upazila in Pabna took possession of 600 acres of 'khas' lands.
About 2,720 landless families in Katiadah beel, Gangbhanga beel, Gazaria beel, Zuria beel, Sonai beel, Beel Mahisarchar and Soantoa pathar have established their legal rights on 'khas' lands.
