Kalaroa AL leaders, activists threaten to resign 'en masse'
The threat came from former upazila AL general secretary Moslem Uddin during his speech at the extended meeting of Kalaroa upazila AL held at the party office. All the leaders and activists who were present at the meeting supported him.
Kalaroa upazila AL joint convenor and Union Parishad chairman Anwarul Islam presided over the meeting.
Discontent is brewing among the leaders and activists of Kalaroa upazila AL following receipt of an instruction of party general secretary Abdul Jalil sent through a letter on March 9.
In his letter, Jalil asked the district AL authorities to hold the district Al council on April 6 without holding the Kalaroa upazila AL council.
As the news spread, the leaders and activists of Kalaroa upazila AL expressed their dissatisfaction over the issue. Since then they have been demanding for holding the party's upazila council.
The meeting was addressed, among others, by former lawmaker BM Nazrul Islam, former Kalaroa upazila AL general secretary Moslem Uddin, joint convenor SM Altaf Hossain, UP chairmen Abdul Hamid, and Tapan Kumar Shaha, Arafat Hossain, Atiar Rahman, Upazila Juba league president Morshed Ali and Rabiul Alam.
There is an internal conflict between two factions of the party since March 9, 2002. A faction is being led by upzila AL convenor Moznu Chowdhury and the other by former lawmaker BM Nazrul Islam. Because of the conflict, the council of Kalaroa upazila AL is not being held, said an AL leader seeking anonymity.
