Bid to grab property of Hindu family in Kushtia

The group also threatens the family to withdraw the cases against them or 'face oppression'.

The group consisting of Chunnu, Hidar, Ashraf, Rabiul, Aziz, Nahid, Tom, Alamin and Masud claimed that they had taken lease of the property from the Ministry of Land on July 14 last year. They showed fake documents in favour of their claim.

Police resisted the group following filing of a case with Sadar Police Station by Pranab Kumar Pal, son of late Modon Mohon Pal, the actual inheritor of the land.

But the group took a fresh bid to occupy the land by hanging a signboard on November 22. At this stage, Pranab filed another case with Kushtia magistrate court accusing nine grabbers. The magistrate issued a stay order on the land the next day. But they violated the court order and attempted to occupy the land again on February 2.

Pranab appealed to the superintendent of police (SP) of Kushtia to look into the matter. The SP arrested the culprits. But they were freed after some time on February 4.

According to the case, late Modon Mohon Paul was the original owner of the land. After his death in 1998, a vested quarter tried to prove the aforesaid land as enemy property and took its lease from the Ministry of Land in collaboration with unscrupulous officials of Kushtia land office.

But according to documents showed by Pranab, the entire property was the asset of late Modon Mohon.
