Clashes leave 70 injured in Kishoreganj

At least 70 persons were injured, 18 of them seriously in two separate clashes at Rasulpur and Sadakpur villages under Bhairab upazila in Kishoreganj on Thursday.

According to police and witnesses, there ensued a rivalry between Abdul Mannan member and Jalal member of Rasulpur village since last Union Parishad (UP) election. On the day, Mannan member's men attacked the houses of Jalal member's men. The clash ensued when Jalal member's men retaliated. Forty people were injured.

Seriously injured Rukonuddin,30, Sayed Mia,50, Lutfur Rahman,45, Rajon Mia,20, Khokon,30, Sajid,40, Abdul Majid,40, Jweel,28,Obayedullah,20, Bulbul,22, Hossain Ali,35, Nurul Haque,50, Farida Begum,45, Sharifa Begum,50, and Rasheda Akthar,45 were admitted to Kishoreganj Sadar Hospital.

Another clash occurred between two groups of people at Sadakpur village under Bhairab upazila. A group was led by Bhairab upazila Awami League leader Abu Bakkar and the other group by Bhairab upazila BNP leader Tofazzal Haque. About 30 persons were injured in the clash.

Seriously injured Sulaiman,25, Azizul Haque,40, Sirajul,50, Hadish Mia,25,and Niamul Haque,25, were admitted to Kishoreganj Sadar Hospital. Of them Niamul Haque i in critical condition. According to police, the clash was a sequel to previous enmity.
