Mysterious death of maid at cop’s house

Ratna Khatun,14, was found hanging from the ceiling of fan of sub inspector (SI) Omar Ali's house in Kadamtala area in the town.

According to Kotwali police sources, Omar Ali brought Ratna from Moksudpur upazila in Gopalganj district. But Omar was transferred to Sirajganj a few months ago while his wife Romesa Begum stayed back at Jessore with the girl.

Neighbours alleged that Romesa used to torture Ratna off and on. She might have beaten Ratna to death on the fateful night and hanged the body from the ceiling fan of the house. Afterwards, she circulated in the area that Ratna had committed suicide.

Kotwali police recovered the body and sent it to Jessore Hospital for autopsy.
