BNP activist, outlaw gunned down in Kushtia, Meherpur

In Meherpur, an armed gang of about 15 allegedly belonging to an outlawed party went to Gopalpur Bazar and searched for BNP activist Bari. He was sitting in a teashop.

The gang caught and dragged him out of the Bazar and shot him.

The gang also blasted two bombs in the market, injuring two persons-- Sukur Ali and Abdul Hannan.

As the gang left the area, local people took Bari, 35, to Meherpur General Hospital. He died soon after admission.

Local people claimed that Bari was a police informer but police denied this over phone.

In Kushtia, a gang allegedly belonging to Hamidul-Rasidul group in Milpara area of the town stormed into the house of Amit Chkrabarti alias Bappi at about 3 am. They dragged him out, took him in a nearby field and shot him dead. Bappi, 30, was the son of Atul Cakrabarti.

Police said Bappi was a member a rival gang led by Saju. Police recovered the body in the morning and sent it to Kushtia General Hospital for autopsy.
