Protest against power outage in Gaibandha

Several hundred people brought out a procession at Shaghata upazila headquarters and besieged the local Rural Electrification Board (REB) office on Thursday protesting load shedding for hours every day for the last one month.

They also and tried to enter the compound. Being informed police came and brought the situation under control.

Later the protesters held a rally on the premise of Shaghata Upazila Parishad demanding smooth power supply. With Abdul Jobber in the chair, the rally was addressed by, among others, Shaghata Chamber of Commerce President Ziaul Karim Montu, its secretary Nazimuddin Ahmed, college teacher Mominul Huq Nayon, school teacher Jahedul Islam and lawyer Parimol Chandra.

Similar programmes were also held earlier in different upazilas of Gaibandha district protesting hours-long power outage and low voltage, which affect businesses, industries and students as well.
