Chilahati tense as BSF reinforces strength

BSF had taken away the body of Idris Ali, 25 but later returned it to BDR Friday night after a flag meeting held earlier on the day.

The BDR sources said yesterday that BSF amassed more weapons near border pillar No. 780 in Chilahati.

BDR also intensified patrol along the border, they said. The Deputy Commissioner of Nilphamari Rabindra Nath Roy Chowdhury and the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Domar Upazila Moniruzzaman visited the family of Idris.

On Thursday in the afternoon, BSF killed a Idris Ali of Danga Para Adarsha Gram (model village) in Bhogdaburi union under Domar upazila when he, along with 12 others, went to Old Teesta river near pillar No 780 inside Bangladesh territory to catch fish, BDR sources and local people said.

After the incident a flag meeting was held at Danga Para BDR camp. The BDR team was led by Maj. Shafiq, Commander of 26 BDR Battalion and the Indian team was headed by the Deputy Commander of 87 BSF Battalion.

BDR sources said that at the meeting, BSF regretted the killing and promised to stop repetition of such incidents. But they reinforced their strength since the meeting.
