OC closed, SI suspended in Satkhira
Acting on orders from DIG Khulna Range Noor Mohammad, Satkhira Police Superintendent Abdur Rahim closed OC Kanchan Mahmud to police line and suspended Sub-inspector Abdus Salam for neglect to duty, police sources here said yesterday.
Housewife Amina Rani Halder, wife of Krishna Pada Halder of Dhankhali village in Shyamnagar upazila was slaughtered by a gang on March 13. The victim's father Parimal Baidya filed a case with Shyamnagar thana accusing Ashutosh, Asit, Krishna Mondal and Amita Mondal.
SI Abdus Salam was made the investigation officer (10) of the case.
On July 18, SI Abdus Salam arrested the victim's husband Krishapada Haidar though he was not named in the FIR and tortured him.
Soon after the incident, the victim's brother Dinabandhu Haidar complained to the DIG against OC Kanchan Mahmud and SI Abdus Salam. In his written complaint he said that the SI demanded Tk 50,000 from his brother Krishna Pada Haidar and threatened that he would be implicated in the murder case for non-compliance.
As he refused to pay the I0 of the case arrested and tortured him.
Dinabandhu Haidar in his complain also said that his eight year old son Victor Haidar was abducted by a group of miscreants on May 22 and they demanded Tk 5 lakh ransom for his release.
Even after two and a half months, police could neither rescue him not arrested the abductors due to neglect in duty, he said.
After getting the comp0laint, DIG Noor Mohammad summoned the OC and the IO at his office. After inquiry, the DIG ordered Satkhira SP to take action against them.
When contacted, the Satkhira SP acknowledged taking actions.
The SP said action will be taken against them as per low.
