More protests in districts

In demonstrations, the ruling alliance blamed the opposition for the blasts to destabilise the government and tarnish country's image abroad while the opposition parties alleged that these were done by forces harboured and sheltered by the alliance government.

Ruling BNP and opposition Awami League (AL) brought out separate processions and held rallies in Satkhira town Thursday evening protesting the August 17 bomb blasts across the country.

BNP brought held its rally at Shahid Alauddin Square with Sadar upazila BNP president Abdul Alim in the chair. Speakers at the rally condemned the bomb attacks and demanded arrest and punishment to the culprits.

They termed blasts a 'conspiracy to tarnish Bangladesh's image abroad and foil development activities by the government'.

The rally was addressed by, among others, Emamul Islam Sharif, Sheikh Nizam Uddin, Tozammel Hossain Tozam, Abul Hossain Hadi, Nasim Farroq Khan Mithu, Hasanuzzaman, Maulana Mahiuddin, Jahangir and Mukul.

Satkhira district AL held its rally in front of the party office. With Satkhira district AL General Secretary Alhaj Nazrul Islam in the chair, it was addressed by, among others, Sheikh Abu Nasim , Mahidul Haque, Shahidul Islam, SM Shawkat Hossain, Firoz Ahmed, Sheikh Nurul Haque, ShahJahan Ali and Asaduzzaman.

Thyey accused 'anti- liberation forces' for the blasts, saying it is a 'conspiracy against pro-liberation forces'. They held BNP-Jamaat led four party alliance government responsible for patronising anti-liberation forces who are creating violence since it assumed power in 2001.

Satkhira unit of Jamaat also brought out a procession and held a rally at Shahid Abdur Razzak Park on the same day protesting the bomb attacks. With Principal Nasir Uddin in the chair, the rally was addressed by among others Jamaat lawmaker Maulana Abdul Khaleque, district Jamaat Ameer Muhaddes Abdul Khaleq, Maulana Rafiqul Islam and Maulana Abdul Bari. They alleged that a major opposition party was behind the blasts as part of a blue print to destabilise the government.

Ahle Hadith Juba Sanga, youth front of Ahle Hadith Andolon, Bangladesh (Ahab) led by Dr. Asdullah Al Galib also brought out a procession and held a rally at Shahid Alauddin Square yesterday With Maulana Abdul Mannan in the chair, speakers at the rally blamed Jamaatul Mujahidin, Bangladesh for the attacks.

Our Brahmanbaria Correspondent reports: Brahmanabaria virtually turned into a town of protest processions and rallies after Wednesday's bomb blasts.

Ruling four party alliance and opposition Awami League, Jatiya Party, and their student and youth fronts held rallies and marched town streets yesterday and the day before condemning the bomb attacks.

Jubo League, Awami League's youth front, at a meeting in from of Brahmanbaria Press Club demanded resignation of the government for its failure to protect people's life and property. With district Juba League president Mahbubul Alam Khokan in the chair, it was addressed by, among others, AL district secretary Homayon Kabir, Amanul Haque Santo and Mazibur Rahman Babul.

On Thursday, the 4- party alliance brought out a procession in the main roads of the district town here.

Speakers at a BNP rally on Thursday called upon the people to rally round the four-party alliance to resist "conspirators" to consolidate democracy.

With Harom Al Rashid MP in the chair, it was addressed by, among other, Brahamanbaria BNP vice presedent Md Hafizur Rahman Mulla Kachi, secretary Haji Sayed Emanur Reza, Jamaat district president Kazi Nazrul Islam Khadem, Islami Okya Jote president Abul Foyez and its secretary Mawlana Muhammad Idris.

Communist Party of Bangladesh and Workers Pparty also held separate rallies is the town protesting the blasts.

Tangail district unit of Awami League (AL) brought out a procession and held a rally in front of the party office Thursday evening protesting Wednesday's bomb blasts across the country.

With district AL President Shamsur Rahman Khan Shajahan in the chair, speakers at the rally condemned the bomb attacks to create panic among the people.

They accused anti-liberation forces for this, saying it is a conspiracy against pro-liberation forces.

They demanded resignation of the BNP-Jamaat government for its failure to ensure security of people's life and property.

The rally was addressed by, among others, district AL leader Moazzem Hossen Khan, district Jubo League president Sawkat Reza, secretary Kazi Aulid Islam, district Chhatra League president Faruque Hossen Manik and secretary MA Rouf.

Different political social, and cultural organisations condemned the countrywide bomb blasts on Wednesday and demanded punishment to the culprits.

Blaming the "fanatic forces" for the blasts, leaders of the organisations urged the government to strengthen national security and resist the forces who are working against the interests of the country.

Patuakhali BNP brought out a procession and held a rally in the town Thursday evening. BNP leaders Abdur Rashid Chunnu Mia, MA Rob, Maksud Ahmed Bayezid Panna addressed in the rally.

Jamaat-e-Islami brought out a procession in the town after Jumma prayer yesterday.

Islami Oikka Jote arranged a protest meeting at its local office with Maulana Azahar Uddin was in the chair.
