Mother demands punishment to daughter's killers

Bashanti Rani, mother of Ratna Rani who was beaten to death allegedly by her husband at Uttara Falia village in Sadar upazila on August 4, made the appeal at a press conference held at Gaibandha Press Club yesterday.

Bashanti said one Dulal Chandra of the same village wedded her daughter Ratna three years ago. Soon after the marriage Dulal and his relatives began to torture her for dowry. On the fateful day, Dulal beat her to death and hung the body to show it as a suicide. She said that Dulal was given Tk 30,000 only 10 days before the death of Ratna.

Bashati said that she went to police to file a murder case, but they registered an unnatural death (UD) case.

Later, she filed a murder case with the Sessions Judge's Court accusing four persons including Dulal Chandra under Child and Woman Repression Prevention Act.
