Public Meeting in Sunamganj

14-party to form next govt: Jalil

Awami League General Secretary Abdul Jalil yesterday said the 14-party alliance will win the next general election and form government.

"We will make the country free of terrorism and corruption", Jalil declared while addressing a big public meeting at Derai upazila headquarters in Sunamganj district.

Upazila Awami League (AL) organised the rally, held at the BADC Maidan with Altafuddin in the chair. AL Presidium members Tofael Ahmed, Suranjit Sengupta,

Sylhet City Corporation Mayor Badar Uddin Ahmed Kamran, Sylhet district AL chief ANM Shafiqe and general secretary Iftekhar Hossain Shamim, Moulvibazar district AL chief Syed Mohsin Ali and its Sunamganj district unit vice-president Golam Rabbani and former bureaucrat MA Mannan also addressed the rally.

The AL general secretary also said the 4- party alliance came to power on the back of a commitment to root out terrorism and a corruption.

"But the nation has been branded as the number one corrupt country in the world under its rule", he alleged.

Ministers have plundered thousands of crore of taka and smuggled out resources.

"We will take the people's money back from them", he asserted.

The Khaleda-Nizami government has destroyed the country's image abroad and the spirit of Liberation War, he alleged.

The AL veteran reiterated the opposition call to the government to accept the proposed caretaker reforms put forward put by the 14- party alliance.

"Otherwise we will compel the anti-people government to step down".

He said, the 6-point demand of people of the low lying region of Sylhet would be met if the 14-partry alliance is voted to power.

Suranjit Sengupta who is also lawmaker from Derai-Shulla constituency,Êplaced a 6-point 'Derai Declaration' containing demands of the people of Bhati areas (low lying areas).

The demands include implementation of the Kalni-Kushiyara flood control project, a permanent project to save crops from early floods and improvement of communication network in the region.
