15 Sylhet JCD men chargesheeted
JCD for killing Rafiqul Islam Patwary (Liton), a final year student and assistant general secretary of SUST unit of the party.
Liton was beaten on July 13. He died next morning at hospital.
Police could not nab any of the alleged killers in last six months though sources claimed that some of them are moving freely on the SUST campus and some others are in Dhaka. Two of them have been admitted to Masters courses in Dhaka University.
Investigation Officer (IO) of the case, Sub Inspector Bazlar Rahman, submitted the charge sheet to Sylhet Sadar Magistrate Court. The accused are Main Al Deen Bin Naser, Md Jashim Uddin, Bidhan Das, Shakhawat Hossain Murshedul Islam, Md Nasir Uddin, Naimul Huda, Md Emran Hossain Bhuiyan, Amirul Islam Bipul, Md Ershad, Kaosar Ahmed, Abul Kalam Azad, Shah Mohammad Muhibullah, Zahidul islam and Mayeenul Islam Babu.
Of them, Main Al Deen and Jashim Uddin are vice- presidents and Emran Hossain is general secretary of JCD at SUST. The rest are JCD office bearers in units in SUST and different dormitories.
The IO in the charge sheet said, the murder was due to rivalry for supremacy on the campus.
The SUST was closed sine die after the incident on July 14, the first political murder on SUST campus. The varsity reopened after a month.
SUST Student Affairs Advisor Dr Sajedul Karim and the victim's mother filed two cases with Sylhet Kotwali thana.
Liton, hailing from Dagon-bhuiyan upazila in Feni district, passed HSC from Notredam College in 1998 and passed Honours examination in Social Science at SUST last year.
