JCD cadres assault principal,vandalise college in Rajshahi
College students said, at around 11.30 am, a group of Chatra Dal cadres led by Juba Dal leaders Aslam Sarker, Nazrul Huda and Saodagar entered at campus and started vandalising class rooms, control room and the principal's office.
They also pulled down and demolished the collapsible gate, grills, windowpanes and broke chairs and tables.
Several hundred terrified students and teachers rushed out of classrooms and left the college campus during the rampage.
Collage authorities called police to control the situation.
After the rampage, the JCD cadres threatened the college teachers and other staff that if their demand are not met within 24 hours, they would lock the institution today.
Campus sources said the JCD men were pressing the principal for several days to allow admission of some party activists to the college.
According to Principal Prof Akhtari Begum said, no more students can be admitted to the government college in HSC courses after expiry of time without special permission from Rajshahi Education Board.
Besides, a case filed by principal of a private college for late admission to the government college last year is under trial in a court, she said.
The college authorities called an urgent meeting yesterday evening. The meeting was continuing when the report was filed.
The authorities expressed deep concern over the JCD attack on the principal and demanded punishment of the culprits.
