JCD cadres attack BCL procession at PSTU: 30 hurt

At least 30 activists of Bangladesh Chatra League (BCL), student front of opposition Awami League, were injured when their procession was attacked at Patuakhali Science and Technology University (PSTU) campus allegedly by men of ruling BNP's student front Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal yesterday.

The JCD activists also swooped on BCL activists at dormitories and ransacked some of their rooms, campus sources said.

The sources alleged that police was on the campus but they remained mute onlookers during the attacks.

Five seriously injured BCL activists-- Farid, Azam, Sohel, Shantosh and Mohammad Alitook treatment at different private clinics.

The sources said BCL activists brought out a procession in support of their March 8 council of its PSTU unit. When it reached in front of Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Hall , JCD activists attacked it allegedly in presence of police of Dumki police station.

After foiling the procession, JCD activists ransacked some hall rooms of BCL activists.

Md. Faruq, Officer-in Charge (OC) of Dumki police station denied that the attack was made in presence of police.
