Kushtia journos form human chain, submit memo

Journalists in Kushtia yesterday formed a human chain and submitted a memorandum to the prime minister protesting against the cases filed against three journalists by BNP lawmaker Sahidul Islam and his cadre Azad Biswas.

Journalists and a large number of people of different occupations took part in the programme on Nawab Sirajuddaula road from 10:30am to 11:00am.

The journalists submitted a memorandum to Kushtia Deputy Commissioner to forward it to the prime minister. Copies of the memo were also sent to the speaker of parliament, leader of the opposition in parliament, information minister, state minister for home affairs and the Kushtia superintendent of police.

The journalists, in the memo, sought intervention of the prime minister in the matter and demanded justice from her.

The lawmaker from Kushtia-2 constituency filed the first case on May 8 charging three journalist with extortion . The journalists are now on the run.
