One judge for six courts in Moulvibazar 3,500 cases pending

At least 3,500 cases are pending in the six courts, according to sources in Moulvibazar District and Session Judge's court.

The crisis is prevailing for long. The situation turned worse when Syeda Husne Ara of Sadar Assistant Judge Court and Mir Ruhul Amin of Kulaura Assistant Judge Court were transferred on April 2 without replacements.

Now, Senior Assistant Judge Shahidul Islam sits in Srimangal court and posts of judges in five other courts are vacant.

Before this, only three Assistant Judges sat in the six courts.

The lone Judge passes busy days, hearing cases, delivering verdict, signing order sheets of regular cases and disposing all other related work.

Litigants are suffering as cases linger.

Moreover, the judge's post in the First Court of the Joint District Judge is vacant for months.

Recently, lawyers in Moulvibazar started boycotting the court of Joint District Judge Monjurul Haque Khan, demanding his withdrawal.

Association said, Joint District judge Monjurul Haque Khan was an Assistant Judge at Kulaura court in Moulvibazar in 1996. Lawyers there boycotted his court due to alleged misbehaviour and he was withdrawn. He joined Moulvibazar court again on May 2 with promotion.

The decision to boycott his court was taken at a meeting of the Bar Association on April 27.

The meeting also demanded appointment of judges in vacant posts in all the five courts.
