Aug 17 blast verdict in Patuakhali May 30

Additional District and Sessions Judge Court judge ABM Sajedur Rahman fixed the date on completion of arguments of prosecution and defence lawyers on Monday.

Assistant Public Prosecutor Advocate Humayun Kabir made submissions on statements of witnesses and confessional statements of the accused. He demanded capital punishment to the accused. State-appointed defence counsel Mohklesur Rahman was also present.

Earlier, the court received 32 out of 40 witnesses.

Four out of five accused were present in the court. They are Masum Billah, Hafez Abdullah, Asad and Zafar, all hailing from different villages in Barguna Sadar upazila. Another accused Arif is still absconding.

Main accused Masum was the chief of Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) in Patuakhali and Barguna districts. All the accused were involved in serial bomb blasts at seven points in Patuakhali town.
