Asad belongs to Jamil faction.

In the afternoon, activists of both the factions joined the 14-party rally at the Court Point.

As the rally was about to end, rival activists chased each other with sticks and pelted brickbats.

Awami League leader ANM Shafique shortened his presidential speech at the rally while party leader and city Mayor Badar Uddin Ahmed Kamran who attended the rally took shelter into a nearby mosque.

People in the area from Taltola to Zindabazar ran for shelter as the tival activists chased each other with sticks.

Police later brought the situation under control.
