Crackdown on pirates in three coastal dists
Coast guard, Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) and police will jointly conduct the drive to arrest the listed pirates in the areas. The drive will be led by coast guard.
The decision was taken in response to the demands of fishermen. Over 500 fishermen brought out a procession at Pathorghata in Barguna on June 6. The processionists laid siege to the office of the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) demanding the drive to arrest pirates who resist fishing in the sea.
Kuakata Fishermen's Association secretary Nimai Chandra said, 'Our fishermen can not go to deep sea to catch fish as pirates attack them and loot their nets, food and fuel.Â
