Prices under control, says Saifur

He said the country's economy is on a firm footing. People should not be misguided by propaganda by certain quarters, he said. They must be ware of the world market.

The vested quarters are engaged in criticism against the government as well as the ruling alliance because they never want to see any achievement.

"A country cannot run with only abstract theories of economics. Even after facing all the odds, we are running the country well", he said addressing a gathering of Sylhet district unit of Jatiya Imam Samity, held at a community centre in the city.

The minister said a considerable quantity of fuel is being smuggled out because it is still cheaper in the country. "But they (critics) do not consider the world price of fuel while criticising the government".

With Moulana Matiur Rahman in the chair, the function was also addressed by Dilder Hossain Selim MP and Moulana Farid Uddin Chowdhury MP.

The minister said, since imams play a vital role in moulding public opinion, they should speak against corruption and immoral activities in our society. You will have to motivate people to root out these evils.

As social reformers, imams should give 'Fatwa' against corruption, Saifur added.

He said Islam is not a religion of fanaticism, rather it preaches progressive ideas, he said.
