RU JCD leaders sued, Shafin sent to DMCH
Earlier, JCD convening committee member Shafin Ahmed, also former president of the Nawab Abdul Latif Hall unit of JCD was injured critically in the blast while making bomb in his room at the hall.
Showing him arrested, police sent him to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) from Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital (RMCH) under police protection for better treatment.
Police and the university proctorial body jointly raided the rooms of JCD men in the hall at night. Two lethal weapons, three hokey sticks and 10 bottles of Phensidyl were recovered from the rooms. But they did not raid the rooms of the Islamic Chhatra Shibir (ICS) cadres. It has created resentment among the general students. The students said more firearms and explosives could have been recovered from the rooms of the ICS cadres.
Shibir cadres are now controlling the hall after the incident. They already staged a showdown in front of the hall.
Meanwhile, the hall authorities formed a four-member investigation committee led by a house tutor, Masud Parvez Rana. Other members are--house tutors Saberuzzman, Saiful Islam and Altaf Hossain. The committee was asked to submit report within four days of its formation.
On contact, hall provost Dr Aslam Hossain said the probe body already started its work.
When asked to comment, JCD convener Nuruzzman Likhon said it was not Shafin, but his rivals who occurred the incident in a pre-planned manner.
Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and Samajtrantrik Chhatra Front (SCF) staged separate demonstrations on the campus demanding exemplary punishment to the JCD cadres for making bombs inside the hall. They strongly criticised the university authorities and police administration for not conducting search operations in the rooms of the Shibir cadres. They threatened a tougher agitation if the university authorities failed to nab and punish the culprits. They also demanded of the authorities to ensure safety and security of general students.
