AL leader Latif Mirza among 25 hurt in police action

At least 25 people including district Awami League president and former lawmaker Abdul Latif Mirza were injured when police charged batons on them at thana road in Ullapara in Sirajganj yesterday.

The injured were admitted to Sirajganj Sadar Hospital and Ullapara health complex. Of them, condition of three persons is critical, hospital sources said.

Ullapara upazila Awami League brought out a procession in the upazila headquarters at around 11am to protest arrest of former Union Parishad chairman and upazila Awami League president Abu Bakr.

Police arrested him on Friday night from his resident at Chaksa village in connection with the murder of Saiful Islam, chairman of Lahiri Mohonpur Union Parishad.

Police also lobbed at least five teargas shells.

Earlier, AL activists held a rally in front of upazila AL office with Abdul Latif Mirza in the chair protesting the arrest.
