Runta tea garden reopens June 27

This was announced by its authorities following a meeting with labour leaders held recently at the local office of Samajtantrik Sramik Front (SSF).

The meeting was attended by Senior Assistant Manager Md. Abdur Noor; Assistant Manager Sumon Kanti Das; labour leaders Sunil Rajgour, Nandaraj Gour and Dhoneswar Suryabongshi and SSF leaders Badrul Hussain, Mamunur Rashid Suhel and Ujjal Roy.

At the meeting, a memorandum of understanding was signed between labour leaders and garden officials providing for payment of arrears wages and other benefits and rejoining of 668 labourers.

The garden was shut down by its owners in February 2004, making several thousand labourers jobless.
