“Trainspotting 2” is happening
Director Danny Boyle has spent years talking up the idea of doing a sequel to “Trainspotting”, but has regularly found himself distracted by other projects and opportunities. His most recent distraction has been the brand new Aaron Sorkin-scripted biopic “Steve Jobs”, but it looks as though it may be his last. This is because the filmmaker is now talking about “Trainspotting 2” as his next feature.
Deadline broke the story, having caught up with Danny Boyle at the on-going Telluride Film Festival, where “Steve Jobs” just had a very successful debut. Boyle explained that he's eager to do it, but that there are some issues standing in the way. “All the four main actors want to come back and do it. Now it is only a matter of getting all their schedules together, which is complicated by two of them doing American TV series,” he said.
When “Trainspotting” was first released in 1996, few recognised names like Ewan McGregor, Jonny Lee Miller, Robert Carlyle, Ewen Bremner and Kelly Mcdonald, but a lot has changed in the last 19 years, and they've all found success both on the big screen and small.
