Abu Nyeem performing in Delhi
Young Bangladeshi dancer-choreographer Abu Nyeem is participating in a prestigious festival at India's Gati Dance Forum Residency in Delhi. His solo piece, “The Long Road”, will be one of the attractions of the All Warmed Up festival (from August 7-9), along with performances by five other dancers, all from India.
Originally hailing from Barguna, Nyeem was the first recipient of noted dance school Sadhona's yearlong scholarship to promising artistes of contemporary dance, in 2012. He started training at the age of seven with Bangladeshi folk dance, and gradually exposed himself to creative contemporary movements. Through his years of learning, he has also trained in Kathak and Bharatnatyam, and has performed extensively in Bangladesh and South Asia for the last 14 years. Abu was among the top five dancers in popular Bangladeshi dance reality TV show “Channel I Shera Nachiye” in 2014.
“The Long Road” inquires the relationship of the spine, with the mind and spirit. In the piece, the mind has been used as the driver pushing the spine, one of the strongest tools of the body.
