Four new releases tank at Box Office
Four new wide release movies hit theatres this weekend and all four tanked in ways that make it easy to remember why October is considered the refuse dump Hollywood makes before making the jump to light speed for the holidays.
The movie that bombed hardest was “Jem and the Holograms” – an adaptation of a 1985 cartoon series. Made on an unbelievably low $5 million budget, its $1.3 million collections for a 15th place debut even more painful. Bill Murray and Bruce Willis teamed up for “Rock the Kasbah”, but audiences couldn't be bothered to rock the theatre. It also failed to break into the top ten, marking the lowest ever wide release opening for director Barry Levinson. Vin Diesel-starrer “The Last Witch Hunter” landed in the number four spot. “Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension”, the sixth film of the horror series, took an appropriate sixth place.
“The Martian” held on stronger than its main competition “Goosebumps” to reclaim the top spot in the Box Office. “Bridge of Spies” took the third spot on the list.
