A 40-metre girder bridge built over the Nariyapara canal in Netrakona Sadar upazila has remained unused for two years as approach roads on both ends are yet to be constructed.

The Nollapara Bridge over the Mahadeo river, which connects the Kalmakanda–Panchgaon road in the Nollapara area of Netrakona’s Kalmakanda upazila, has become highly vulnerable due to soil erosion from both ends, compromising its structural integrity.

The construction of a bridge over the Someshwari river near Abbasnagar Bazaar, linking Durgapur and Kalmakanda upazilas of Netrakona, has remained suspended for nearly ten months due to land acquisition complications.

Locals in Netrakona have long been enduring hardships caused by the deteriorating Razu Bazar-Sidhli Bazar road.

During the monsoon season, young people in the haor regions of Netrakona are becoming self-reliant by engaging in low-cost duck farming.

Despite repeated government restrictions, illegal sand extraction from various rivers in Netrakona shows no signs of slowing down.

Once teeming with native fish during the monsoon, many of Netrokona’s wetlands and village ponds are now eerily quiet. The catch has dwindled, and for many families, fish, once a staple, is now a luxury.
