5G for Bangladesh: Navigating between high hopes and hard realities

As Bangladesh enthusiastically gears up for the advent of 5G technology, a centrepiece of its Vision Smart Bangladesh 2041, the mood is a mix of optimism and caution. The transition to 5G is not just an upgrade in telecommunications; it represents a significant technological leap. This leap, however, is fraught with complexities that demand a thorough, objective examination.

The first bezel-less smartphone that most of us didn't know about

It was a simpler time in 2014- Apple hadn't 'reinvented' the phone yet, Facebook wasn't a full-blown monster selling our data to everyone (technically they were, but we didn't know about it), selfies were the rage and we were going nuts about flappy birds. While all this was happening, most of us missed out on Sharp, a relatively lesser-known name in the mobile arena, which launched what was probably the first all screen (almost!) no bezel smartphone, the Sharp Aquos Crystal.

Huawei Nova 3i

Huawei's entry in the midrange market of Bangladesh was on the back of the widely acclaimed Y series and GR series. The Y series still caters to the entry-level midrange crowd now while Huawei launched another series to cater to the upper mid-range segment last year- the Nova series. It entered the market with a nova 2i and was an instant hit. Nearly a couple months back, Huawei introduced the latest gadget of nova series: nova 3i. We were able to test out the device for nearly a month.

OPPO A3s

Not so long ago, we reviewed OPPO F7, the flagship device from the selfie king. This time we are back again with another budget smartphone from the oriental smartphone manufacturer: A3s. The phone is going to be officially unveiled today and will be available in the stores in a few days. We got this bad boy a couple weeks back to test it out. And this is our take on the OPPO A3s:

OPPO F7

Remember the time, when Apple took a beating for having a 'notch' on the top of its display? Guess what, eight months later, now that's something every smartphone brand must to have. Not that we are complaining, just emphasising on the fact that Apple should take a bow for introducing such an unsavoury design and still pass it on as mind-boggling innovation. But enough about the notch for now. The phone that we are reviewing today is the F7, the latest entrant by the selfie-centric smartphone brand OPPO. The unit that we tested was 'Solar Red', the most sought out colour scheme on this device.

Pathao pacing up

Local ride-hailing service Pathao has closed yet another round of funding (Pre-Series B) which now puts this startup's valuation a bit north of $100 million. The news broke a few days back and was later confirmed by Hussain Elius, the CEO of Pathao. The latest round was led by Indonesian ride-sharing startup Go-Jek, and according to TechCrunch, the amount is more than $10 million. However, no official confirmation has been received from Pathao

LG Q6

Inspired by the success of LG G6, South Korean struggling electronic device manufacturer LG has come up with a smaller, sharper and wallet-friendly version of the flagship device. All the aesthetical features that you loved on G6 is on this phone as well: the beautiful body to screen ratio, nearly bezel-less design and metallic-feel on the back cover. OPPO F5: The return of the selfie expert

Going bezel-less or near to the edge is the latest trend amongst phone designers after several top dogs launched their edge to edge display phones. Riding that very wave, OPPO has brought a new device nearly a month ago – The OPPO F5. OPPO, which has synonymised itself as the 'Selfie-Expert', through this device wants to continue to target the selfie-lover segment. But how good is the latest iteration of the F series? Let’s find out:
