Police arrested two suspected rapists in Lalmai upazila of the district on Wednesday.

They were arrested after a woman filed a case with Cumilla Sadar South Police Station nearly three weeks after she was allegedly gang-raped.

After interrogating Anisur Rahman and Liton Biswas, police said it seemed that the allegations against them were credible.

A court sent the duo to jail while police are looking for Jahirul Islam, another accused in the case, said investigation officer of the case Tofazzol Hossain.

The woman, who has been fighting a legal battle against her husband, told reporters that the accused had tricked her into going to an empty house in Lalmai upazila on January 22 and raped her.

Jahirul Islam, who is a lawyer's clerk, asked her to go to a lawyer's house with him. He assured her that the lawyer would be able to win the case in no time.

But he took her to the empty house of the lawyer and raped her along with the guard of the house Liton Biswas and another lawyer's clerk Anisur Rahman, she said.

She said she had not filed the case earlier because she was scared of going to police.

“They had been threatening me over phone not to go to police,” said the mother of four.
