Broad sings de Villiers song
England captain Stuart Broad, following his side's three-run defeat to South Africa, credited AB de Villiers, who hammered a fierce 28-ball 69, for his game-changing innings.
“The knock from AB de Villiers is as good as you will ever see. He hit the ball 360 degrees, targeted the shorter boundaries with fantastic success."
"The whole game was pretty much reliant on AB's knock. To go and hit at that strike rate, he took it away from us in the last few overs,” said Broad.
A modest de Villiers, who preferred speaking on his team as a whole rather than his innings, merely stated that he was very 'motivated' to perform in the must-win contest.
“In the last few matches I have been sitting on the side not performing really well, thinking about my batting and I was very motivated to do well here."
"(After the 15th over) I felt that it was time, I read the ball pretty well, the situation was spot-on with the wet ball and short boundary, it was my night,” gleamed the South African captain.
Having qualified for the semis, speaking on the Chittagong-leg, de Villiers praised the non-traditional sporting wickets at the Zohur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.
“I have to give credit to the
T20 wickets produced here in Bangladesh."
They were very encouraging for us players to see our shots go over the boundary and there was also something there for the bowlers as well.”
