BRTC bus for women: Welcome move

BRTC bus for women: Welcome move

The other day I was waiting for a Farmgate-bound bus at Mirpur -10 when suddenly a BRTC bus came along and stopped right in front of me. The helper of the bus was calling women to get on the bus. I got into the bus and noticed that there were no men in the bus. Then I realised this bus was only for women. This was the first time that I travelled by a designated bus for women. It was noon and there were only 12-15 women in the whole bus. The helper, an elderly man, seemed to be very annoyed with the idea of a separate bus service for women. He was complaining about the fewer number of passengers on the bus.
I think BRTC's decision to operate a separate bus service for women is wise. It would be of much help to women commuters if these buses operate during office hours, that is, from 8 am to 11 am starting from Mirpur to Motijhil and again from 5 pm to 8 pm from Motijhil to Mirpur, when the roads are the busiest. We thank BRTC, for they considered the sufferings of women commuters and introduced a bus service for them.
