Tribute to Tagore and Nazrul at ULAB

University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) celebrated the birth anniversaries of Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam with a special cultural programme, “Rabindra-Nazrul Janmotshab” on June 8, 2014, at its Dhanmondi campus. The programme was conducted by distinguished Nazrul scholar and ULAB Emeritus Professor Rafiqul Islam.
Professor Islam, with Dr. Begum Jahan Ara, Professor Kazi Madina and Dr. Tapati Rani Sarkar elucidated the artistic connection between Tagore and Nazrul. There were also recitations by the panelists and songs by ULAB's Shangskriti Shangshad. The main attraction was the recordings of Rabindranath and Nazrul in their own voices.
Among others, Pro Vice Chancellor Professor H.M. Jahirul Haque, Registrar Lt Col Md. Foyzul Islam, faculty members, admin and students of ULAB were present at the programme.

Freshers' Reception at EWU

The newly enrolled students of the Summer-2014 batch of East West University (EWU) were welcomed with a vibrant musical evening organised by East West University Club for Performing Arts (ECPA) at EWU premises on May 29, 2014. Professor Ahmed Shafee,  Vice Chancellor, EWU was the Chief Guest while Air Cdre (Retd) Ishfaq Ilahi Choudhury, Registrar, was the special guest on the occasion. Dr. Abdus Sattar, Proctor; Nahid Hassan Khan, Adviser of Student Welfare Department; and Nikhil Chandra Shil, Moderator of ECPA, among others, were present.
The EWU indoor cricket team that won Clemon Inter University Indoor Cricket trophy was felicitated by the Vice Chancellor.

Seminar at GUB on National Budget 2014-15

Department of Business Administration (DBA) of Green University of Bangladesh (GUB) organised a seminar on 'National Budget 2014-15: Analysis and Reflection' on June 13, 2014 at its campus. Professor Dr. Md. Golam Samdani Fakir, Vice Chancellor, presided over the programme while Professor Dr. A.B. Mirza Azizul Islam, former Adviser, Ministry of Finance, Government of Bangladesh was present as the Chief Guest. Dr. Mustafa K. Mujeri, Director General, Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies was present as the Guest of Honour.  
Shawkat Kamal, Chairperson of DBA, delivered the welcome speech. The seminar discussed various aspects of the National Budget 2014-15 like poverty alleviation, growth rate etc, especially the influx in the education sector despite which the allocation is declining.
Treasurer Md. Shahid Ullah, Adviser, Law Faculty Professor Dr. Maimul Ahsan, Dean of Science and Engineering Faculty Professor Dr. Engr. Md. Saifur Rahman, Registrar Lt. Col. Md. Ali Ambial Haque Khan (Retd.), Controller of Examinations Professor SMK Nazmul Haque, chairmen of all the departments, faculty members and students were present at the seminar. 

DIU-SBSF signs agreement with MyVision Canada

Daffodil International University (DIU) Social Business Students Forum (SBSF) signed an agreement with MyVision on June 7 at DIU. Joanna Klimczak, Co-Founder/CEO, MyVision, Canada and Kazi Misu, President of SBSF, signed on behalf of their respective organisations. Professor Dr. Md. Fokhray Hossain, Director (International Affairs); Md. Emran Hossain, Director (Administration); Dr. Md. Bellal Hossain, Associate Professor and Team Leader, DIU OrganiCo Project; Mahmudur Rahman, Assistant Professor; and Moonmoon Huq, Lecturer, Department of NFE, were present during the signing ceremony.
Under this agreement both the organisations will work together to promote social business entrepreneurship around the world through exchange internships and mentoring young social business dreamers.
Later, Joanna Klimczak visited Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, Board of Trustees and exchanged views.

Research Project on Filmmaking and TV Journalism at IUB

The certificate award ceremony of the research project `Filmmaking and Television Journalism for Peace and Tolerance' was held on June 12, 2014 at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB). This special academic research project was in collaboration with the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). A total of 27 participants from Rajshahi University, Chittagong University, American International University (AIUB) and IUB participated in this four month-long project.
Professor M. Omar Rahman, Vice Chancellor, IUB attended the programme as the Chief. Wallied Shirzoi, representative from UCSD, spoke on the occasion. Among others, Dr. G.M. Shahidul Alam, Head of the Department of Media and Communication, IUB and the Country Director of the project, Professor Dr. Zakir Hossain Raju, Dean, School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, IUB, spoke on the occasion. Dr. Tanvir A Khan, Registrar, IUB, delivered the formal vote of thanks. Jessica Tartila, faculty member, IUB, conducted the ceremony.
