Eastern University hosts 'Social  Business Youth Convention 2014'

Eastern University, in collaboration with Yunus Centre, hosted 'Social Business Youth Convention 2014' at the university premises on July 2. The day-long event was focused on the theme of 'Empowering Youth through Social Business.'
The convention was inaugurated by Rokia Afzal Rahman as Chief Guest in presence of the Special Guest, Mohammad Enayet Ullah, Chairman, Board of Trustees, Eastern University. After the inauguration, four panel discussions were held where social business leaders shared their experiences and thoughts on enormous available opportunities through social business.
Among others, former Commerce Minister GM Quader; Managing Director, Grameen Trust, Dr. H.I. Latifee; Professor Emeritus, BRAC University and former Vice Chancellor, North South University, Dr. Hafiz G.A. Siddiqi; Professor, IBA, University of Dhaka and former Vice Chancellor, Eastern University, Dr. A.K.M. Saiful Majid; Professor, University of Dhaka and Vice Chairman, Board of Trustees, Eastern University Foundation, Dr. A.B.M. Shahidul Islam; Dean, Faculty of Business, Eastern University, Dr. Nazrul Islam,  shared their thoughts on social business.
A competition on social business plan and two workshops on 'How to Write Social Business Plan' were held. About 150 students, divided into 22 teams and 10 faculty members from different public and private universities, participated in the workshops.
The main attraction of the convention was the keynote speech by Nobel laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus. Both inaugural and closing sessions were chaired by Dr. Abdur Rab, Vice Chancellor, Eastern University.

Erratum: In the July 10, 2014 issue of SHOUT, a news was published that conveyed East Delta University organised 'Social Business Youth Convention 2014' at its campus. As conveyed in the abovementioned snippet, the event was organised by Eastern University. We regret this inadvertent error.

Intra-University Debate Competition by SEUDC

Prize giving ceremony of Intra-University Debate Competition 2013, organised by Southeast University Debating Club (SEUDC), was held on July 1, 2014 at the Seminar Hall of Southeast University.  
Professor Dr. Anwar Hossain, the Vice Chancellor, was present as chief guest at the event, while Pro Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Humayun Kabir Chowdhury and Chairman of Debate for Democracy, Hassan Ahamed Chowdhury Kiron, were present respectively as special guest and guest of honour.
Dean of School of Business Studies, Professor Dr. Golam Ahmed Faruqui, chaired the programme. Among others, Moderator of SEU Debating Club and Assistant Professor, School of Business Studies M. Abdullah Al Mamun, deans of various Schools; chairmen of different departments and a good number of teachers and students were present on the occasion.
Sixteen teams participated in Bangla and 8 teams participated in English debate. BBA programme and Department of Law and Justice became champion and runner up both in Bangla and English debate respectively.

Orientation Programme for New Faculty Members at UAP

Orientation programme for newly recruited faculty members of University of Asia Pacific (UAP) was held at its Department of Business Administration (DBA), new campus on June 20.  
Professor Jamilur Reza Choudhury, Vice Chancellor of UAP; Professor Dr. M.R. Kabir, Pro Vice Chancellor; Tasneem Siraj Mahboob, Member, Board of Trustees; Dr. Md. Abdul Mazid, Registrar; and A.S.M. Ashraful Huq, Director, Finance & Accounts, spoke on the occasion.
Professor Jamilur Reza Choudhury talked about the teacher's responsibility. Dr. M.R. Kabir stressed on quality education and Tasneem Siraj Mahboob spoke about the motivation needed for students. Dr. Md. Abdul Mazid briefed about UAP rules and regulations while A.S.M. Ashraful Huq addressed the issues related to finance and accounts.
