ASAUB observes National Mourning Day
ASA University Bangladesh (ASAUB) observed the National Mourning Day marking the 39th death anniversary of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, with due respect and solemnity on August 16. ASAUB organised a discussion programme on the life and contributions of Bangabandhu. Professor Dr. Dalem Ch. Barman, Vice-Chancellor of the university, presided over the discussion.
Professor Dr. A.K.M. Helal uz Zaman, Treasurer; Professor Md. Muinuddin Khan, Adviser; Professor Dr. Abu Daud Hasan, Dean, Faculty of Arts & Social Science; Professor Dr. Iqbal Hossain, Dean (In-charge), Faculty of Business; Professor Dr. A.B. Siddique, Dean, Faculty of Law; Md. Saiful Alam, Chairman, Department of Law; Professor Dr. Mohammad Abdul Bari, Chairman, Department of Public Health; teachers and students from different departments spoke at the programme. Registrar of ASAUB, Md. Khalequzzman, delivered the welcome speech. Vhokto Kumar Biswas, Senior Lecturer, Department of Business Administration conducted the programme.
Green University Interdepartmental Football Tournament
Green University Interdepartmental Football Tournament begun on August 16 and ended with the final match on August 18. The Vice Chancellor inaugurated the tournament at 10 AM on August 16 at the Gollartek Eidgah Field, Mirpur. Eight departments of GUB were placed in two groups. There were 18 matches in the tournament. As part of the tournament, three friendships matches were played among the teachers, officers and MLSS of the main campus and science campus of GUB.
US Ambassador speaks at IUB
Dan W. Mozena, the Ambassador of the US to Bangladesh, attended a roundtable on Climate Change and Bangladesh on August 13 at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB). International Centre for Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD) at IUB organised the discussion. Professor M. Omar Rahman, Vice Chancellor, IUB delivered introductory comments while Dr. Saleemul Huq, Director, ICCCAD, delivered the welcome remarks on the occasion. Among others, Professor Milan Pagon, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Designate); Professor M. Ali Hossain, Dean, School of Environmental Science and Management, IUB; Dr. Karl Wurster, Deputy Director, Economic Growth Office, USAID; Nathan Sage, Control and Site Officer, USAID and visiting researchers from the USA were present.
There was a lively open discussion at the end of the event. Mozena briefly described the US government's climate change related programmes in Bangladesh and answered various questions from the participants.

Prize Giving Ceremony at UAP English Department
Prize giving ceremony of extracurricular activities of University of Asia Pacific (UAP) English department was held on August 13.
Professor Jamilur Reza Choudhury, Vice Chancellor, addressed the programme as chief guest. Professor S.M. Amanullah, Head, Department of English presided over the ceremony.
Prizes were given to the three best participants in essay writing, reading, spelling, film appreciation, English debate and Bangla debate.
UAP English department has been continuing diverse extracurricular activities and formed a number of clubs and forums in this regard.
The clubs include Theater and Film Club, Debating and Conversation Club, Communicating Literature Club, Sports Club and Cultural Club. Each club is headed by a faculty member of the department.
Seminar on Careers in Private Banks at ULAB
University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) Career Services Center in collaboration with Trust Bank Limited organised a free career development seminar on August 11 at the ULAB Auditorium for those who are interested in private banks for developing their careers. The seminar was open for all ULAB students.
Lieutenant Colonel Md. Foyzul Islam (Retd), Registrar, ULAB gave the welcome speech. Sharif Moinul Hossain, FAVP, HRD, Trust Bank was the key presenter in the programme. He described detailed techniques of building careers in the private banking sector in his presentation. Students also participated in an open discussion with the speakers.
